and then she snapped: sun flare and not going to BlogHer

sun flare and not going to BlogHer

It seems like EVERYBODY in the whole world is at BlogHer in New York City right now. Except me (and probably you because why else would you be reading my blog right now?). I didn't want to go. I tell myself it's really not my thing. But every year while it's going on I get a little jealous of the #blogher twitter hashtag, and now it's on instagram too! Every year I imagine that I am totally outgoing and that I love to travel and be spontaneous and go to parties and stay up late and therefore I totally SHOULD be there! But then I remember that that is not who I am AT ALL and I really don't want to be there. I think I just want to want to be there. Because if I actually was there I would surely have a stomach ache about it. I was super proud of myself for going to Evo earlier this month, where there were like 300 participants instead of BlogHer where there are like 3,000 (I totally just made those numbers up, so don't quote me on that). So BlogHer will have to wait. Until never. Or maybe next year...

Please enjoy this photo of my sweet babe and know that this morning he told me that he needed a watch. So he could be awesome like dad.

Seriously. The kid kills me with adorableness on a daily basis.

  1. Hi, Rachel! I think we met at Evo, and I, too, am not at BlogHer in NYC at the moment (high five?). I've never been to BlogHer, but I prefer smaller venues anyway because I think there's actually more opportunity to meet and get to know people.

  2. Yep. I am not going to BlogHer either! I am not really sure I want to go either. A blogging conference would be fun... but I don't know if I want to go to one that BIG.

So come visit me if you get lonely, 'cause we are home!

  5. awwww...I think that's the best reason ever to get a watch. Although, even without one, that little guy sounds awesome all by himself. :)

  7. The photo is perfect. And I am not one to go to Blogher either. Funny, since we met you know where ;)

  8. But if you were at BlogHer, you would have missed that photo.

I want to go to BlogHer. But only if it's close to me. And free. And I don't have to stay up late. I love meeting new people. But I go to bed at 10, so I might not get to meet any people at BlogHer, because I'd be asleep during the parties.

  9. Good on you for being true to who you are right now Rachel.
Love those eyelashes, great that his dad is his hero, long may that last.

  10. Ok, here's my thing. I went to BlogHer '10 and loved/hated it. I loved all the free stuff I got! But the social isolation that I imposed on myself sucked. So I'm not going this year (money money MONEY) and I'm jealous of all the BlogHer insanity! Btw - GORGEOUS kid!

  11. The photo is stunning...I really like the way his lashes catch the light. Such a sweet face, and a sweet heart that wants to be like dad!! {and, if you're taking a poll...which you're not...I'm not a conference girl either. And somewhere along the line gave up wanting to want to be!}

  12. I feel a lot like you. I would probably be miserable if I actually went to BlogHer, because I have pretty intense social anxiety and I need to have my security blanket (read:husband) with me for social situations. On the other hand, I desperately want to go, because I want to grow my blog. I have so much to learn and I would love to network for the sake of my blog. I tell myself I'm not going, because of the cost, but the reality is it's my crazy brain that's keeping me home.

  13. We should just meet up in New York... August of 2013? The shy peoples blogger conference. And no conference - just food and Central Park and then more food.

  14. Since we've met, you probably believe me when I say this, but I'm kinda shy at first and when I don't know people - I am super intimidated. I'm not at BlogHer this year either (hello, 4 month old baby at home). But I REALLY want to go. I know that it will be super overwhelming but I think it's good for us to step outside out comfort zone. At least for me, it helps me grow. I'm DEFINITELY going to BlogHer 2013, and you should too :)

  15. First, your babe IS adorable. Love this picture. Second, I went to ONE blogger conference a couple years ago and it was small and I have NOT been to one since because I was such a sweaty, shy, nervous, loner wreck when I went! The thought of being that girl in the corner again is enough to make me faint. Sooo... I still want to go to BlogHer and other conferences, but I think I'll wait till I get over my shyness. ;-)

  16. I'm not there either. I will probably wait until it comes back around to Seattle again. I could probably afford it then. Although I would probably miss the heck outta my family.

  18. I'm dying to go to a blog anything I'm still learning so I'd hope to catch on to a few things but I'm super shy and not really a party gal either. I probably wouldn't even talk to anyone haha

  19. I've been a little jealous of all those hashtags, but if I was there I would feel totally out of my element amongst all the "successful" bloggers. We'll see though, maybe someday.
